What is dry eye disease?
Dry eye disease (EOS) is a disease that is characterized by an alteration in the lubrication of the ocular surface, which encompasses the eyelids, tear film, conjunctiva and cornea.
What are the symptoms of dry eye?
It is a chronic disorder whose symptoms are varied and among them the sensation of sand, burning, stinging, redness, blurred vision and discomfort when performing tasks of effort or visual fixation (reading, driving, display screens). It can be affected by environmental factors, and symptoms can be exacerbated in unfavourable situations such as smoke, wind, air conditioning, as well as by taking some medications such as antihistamines, antidepressants or anxiolytics, among others.

Its symptoms are nonspecific and range from itching, redness, burning, photophobia, tearing to the presence of whitish scales. or collarettes around the eyelash follicles with accumulation of desiccated discharge and meibomian plugs at the glandular opening.
What treatment exists for blepharitis?
The treatment is especially aimed at hygiene and specific cleansing of the eyelid edge, but other anti-inflammatory or antibiotic measures that should be prescribed by your specialist doctor may be necessary.
